Child Violence Defined

Let me take a moment to define in loose terms, child violence.  Child violence is any act perpetrated  against a child that harms the child in an emotional, physical or sexual way.  It is also the physical, emotional, verbal or sexual abuse of a child.  Abuse is defined as repeated or continuing harm to the child.  In this loose definition there are two aspects, those that happen once and those that occur and reoccur.  A child killing  is a single occurrence crime.  Sexual molestation of child by another can be a single occurrence or a repeating crime against the child.  Verbal abuse of child can be a single or recurring crime.  Child abuse is most often thought of as a crime perpetrated by a care giver or family member.
