 Statistics About Child Violence

Statistics about violence against children are very disturbing at best.  I tabulated the statistics that best represent the problems faced by children and parents.  I have searched thoroughly to find the most accurate and accepted numbers for the various issues.  Please take a moment to look at the stats.  These numbers are an indictment against those that target children and a true awakening for us as parents, teachers, police and social workers.

Victim Statistics

Child Abductions by 
Non-Family Members               150,000 per yr

Child Abductions by
Family Members                       340,000 per yr

1 in 3 girls will have sexual contact with an adult.

1 in 5 boys will have sexual contact with an adult.

15% of Sexual Abuse Victims are younger than 12.

300% increase in Child Sexual Abuse since 1980.

44% of abuse is neglect, 24% physical, and 15% Sexual.

Child sexual abuse victim is 10 to 15 times more likely to commit suicide.

30% of women in prison were abused.

90 to 95% of teen prostitutes were abused.

Schools identify the majority of cases.

Disabled children are more likely to be abused.

Abuser Statistics

Most sexual abusers victimize over 100 victims before being caught.

40% of offenders in prison and 75% of serial rapists were once victims.

20% of abusers are adolescents.

Almost all sexual abusers are heterosexual men.
